The Dalavich community has its own imposing timber-built Village Community Hall within which is a thriving licensed social club (visitors welcome subject to compliance with licensing law) and includes spacious, attractive bar with outside decking, pool table, darts, table tennis, badminton etc. The social club is also home to a large impressive function hall with stage where a variety of functions are held. This was purchased for the Dalavich community from the Forestry Commission through the dedicated efforts of The Dalavich Improvement Group ( www.dalavich.biz ) ably supported by the residents, a major achievement for such a small community. In addition to community functions it is also an excellent venue for private functions. |
There is a very well stocked licensed Village Shop/General Store ( 01866 844256 ) with sub Post Office together with the small friendly Wild Rowan café serving teas, coffees and a variety of wholesome meals, snacks, delicious home-made cakes and scones. |

The Kilchrenan Inn (01866 833232) is also a popular watering hole with both locals and visitors serving teas, coffees a large choice of alcoholic beverages (including a good range of malt whiskies), filling snacks, lunches and dinners. |

It used to be the Village Store and Post Office as well as a filling station up until the 1980s. The Post Office and Store closed in the late 1980s. The Post Office had previously been in Tigh an Drochaid, diagonally opposite the pub, and previous to that up the hill in Willowbank Cottages. The postmasters in the former were the McClellans, whose daughter Aileen was the school-teacher who can be seen on the 1953 school photograph on this site. For a while in the early 1980s it was a community-run co-op and public bar. |
There was also a former drovers Inn known as the “White House”, which translates in Gaelic to its current name Tigh Ban. It dates from the 17th Century and continued to serve some “refreshments” up to 1926. Rob Roy is reputed to have had a good session there after a funeral which ended in a scrap between rival factions when someone didn’t stand their round - nothing changes!

Just down the road from here below the Church is the beautifully refurbished and extended Kilchrenan Village Hall, an important facility for a relatively outlying community such as ours.
The existing Hall was built in 1934, when it replaced an earlier timber structure on the same site. It now bears little resemblance to this building having gone through a major programme of renovation in 2006, which was substantially grant-aided. Local fund-raising events were held and excellent support was received from the community as a whole. There has been a very active Council and the principal officers in particular have worked hard to achieve a wonderful facility for the community to be proud of. |
| Details of what is happening in the hall can be seen in the Notice Board section of this site. It is hoped that the “new” hall will be extensively used for social and educational functions and not just by the existing organisations who have given great support but by new groups also. It can of course be booked for private functions. Ideas for consideration are always welcome by the Council whose main officers are shown under Organisations and Groups section of the site. |
