Oban bus stand Station Square early 80s |
For a small somewhat remote community we are perhaps fortunate in this day and age to have a public bus service which being sensibly combined with the bussing of the children ( see 'Schools' page) has enabled this valuable link to survive. This service continued by Stewart’s Coaches until last year and although they relinquished the contract for the Oban run in 2005 they still offer other school services and private hire ( 01866 833342).

Seaplane approaches Taychreggan |
West Coast Motors (www.westcoastmotors.co.uk ) now cover the Oban route. Although of course most of us have cars, pick-ups and/or Chelsea Tractors (some all three) not everyone does and it is hoped the service will survive well into the future. The station at Taynuilt is on the main Oban/Glasgow line (www.scotrail.co.uk ) and provides an excellent regular link to “ the smoke “. There is a regular City-Link Bus Service ( www.citylink.co.uk ) to the central belt and beyond. The air-strip at Connel serves a useful purpose for various organisations and groups but unless you have your own plane or chopper it’s a bit limited. Glasgow Airport (www.glasgowairport.com) is however easily within two hours drive of here with flights to just about everywhere. |
